Keeping Your Competitive Edge - The Nevada Senior Olympics
Published January 22, 2009 by admin
Keeping our competitive edge seemed to be very easy during our younger years, but now as we approach our golden years at times it can be very difficult to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. Swinging the tennis racket or shooting the wining basket is not just for the young, even in our 60’s and 70’s we should work to develop and or preserve an active lifestyle and competitive nature.
The Nevada Senior Olympics is a great opportunity for Nevada seniors to become associated with something very special. To be apart of the Nevada Senior Olympics you must be 50 years of age or older. I don’t know about you, but for me having the opportunity to be associated with something special is a great feeling. Why stay home and just watch the tube, when you can get into the challenge and excitement of competition. As a Nevada senior you no longer have to pine to the glory days of high school and college sport activities, but now you can take the challenge and become involved today. Besides the tremendous physical health benefits of living an active lifestyle, making the decision to compete in the Nevada Senior Olympics does wonders for our mental health as well, lets face it there is nothing better for our self confidence then being apart of a team or wining that close race. The fact is that according to the National Center for Health Statistics 70% of men and women between the ages of 50 and 74 are overweight and 30% of those are obese, so as you can see we need to engage in physical activity, and there is no better opportunity then competitive sports.
In 2007 the Nevada senior games celebrated its twenty-seventh year of Games in Nevada. The Nevada senior Olympics have something for everyone, you name it they have it (bowling, tennis, track & field, basketball, swimming, pickle ball, racquetball, and horseshoe.) This years opening ceremonies are scheduled on Sunday September 21st. As with any physical activity it is always recommended to see your physician before engaging into any type of physical activity. For you late comers there is always next year, but take the challenge of getting your self prepared in small steps leading to your final destination of the Nevada Senior Olympics. At the end of the day we all have a choice, we can watch time go by or we can embrace our life and become apart of this wonderful world. Our age never has to get in the way of living a healthy happy life.
